Every year, Associação Salvador runs a campaign to raise awareness among authorities and the public about the challenges of accessibility in Portugal. For this edition, the concept reinterpreted one of the greatest prides of Portuguese culture — the legacy of the Age of Discoveries — by transforming the legendary sea monsters that once populated nautical maps into visual metaphors for the obstacles people with disabilities face daily on the country’s streets. The illustration style was inspired by traditional Portuguese azulejos, with their hatching and watercolor tones, while incorporating contemporary elements to create a dialogue between tradition and modernity.
